Going West – a stunning paper stop motion animation by Andersen M Studio

‘Going West’ — an animation by Andersen M Studio that inspires by it’s intricate and detailed hand-cut ‘pop-up’ scenery springing up from the pages and thoughtfully brought to life by stop motion animation. Commissioned by Colenso BBDO for the New Zealand Book Council, the two-minute film features an excerpt from Maurice Gee‘s classic New Zealand novel Going West.

The short film has won two Axis Gold awards, in the Charity and the Art Direction & Typography category. It was also awarded New York’s Museum of Art and Design’s Choice grand prize at Moving Paper, an international film festival of cut paper animation held at the museum in March.

A creative studio from London, UK, Andersen M Studio is a partnership between siblings Martin and Line Andersen who work in the areas of art direction, graphic design, photography, animation, film and music. Their priority is to produce original creative communication, work that has personality, originality and integrity for a variety of industries.

DIY Geometric Embroidered Notebooks

The Curious Doodles shop has so many super cool, do-it-yourself embroidery items, and I’m completely enamored with this DIY Geometric Pocket Notebook Embroidery Kit. The design was inspired by Sashiko stitching, and you can use the pattern included in the kit or create your own.

Each embroidery kit comes with two perforated and ready-to-stitch notebooks – make one for yourself and give the second to a friend, or give the kit to someone who loves to embroider.

Chloé Fleury

Oh. My. Goodness. I spotted the amazing work of paper artist, Chloé Fleury, recently over on The Jealous Curator, and to say that it was love at first sight is kind of an understatement. The French-born, San Francisco-based artist’s paper creations have such incredible detail that you could easily spend hours taking in each little knick knack, accessory, and bunny ear.

Chloe’s clients include Anthology Magazine, Warner Bros. Records, and Chronicle Books, and she recently opened a solo show at La Boutique in San Francisco called Color Me Happy – The World of Chloé Fleury. What a fun and playful world it is!

Craveable Cards

If you’re looking to get some paper cravings going, then the National Stationery Show is certainly a great place to do that. Here are my picks for most craveable cards of the show, and stay tuned because there will be at least two more parts to come. What can I say? There were SO many awesome cards that it would’ve been impossible to compress them into one post!

Maginating has some of the cutest cards around, and I love how they incorporated foil stamping into some of their new designs. Check out the iridescent foil on the congratulations card – so cool!

July 4th Vintage Subway Posters

             To everyone celebrating today, Happy Independence Day! Paper Source locations across the country broke out their Sihouette Cameo die cutting machines and plenty of red, white, and blue for the occasion to create vintage-inspired subway art poster window displays. Teams at each location were provided with a list of words and phrases that they could include on their posters, and the results are red, white, and blue-tastic!
